In this State Library of Victoria image, the frame of the “A” turbine house is rising from the site. Steel, timber bracing, cranes, temporary tracks, huts, ladders, and hand tools fill the scene. This is construction in its raw form.
The work required engineers, draughtsmen, riggers, carpenters, boilermakers, fitters, drivers, labourers, supervisors, and suppliers. It required planning, lifting, measuring, shaping, assembling, and coordination across the whole site.
People from different backgrounds brought different skills to the same task. Monash gave the project direction. The builders and workers gave it physical form.
