Monash loathed war “with a loathing I cannot describe,” then planned the Battle of Hamel with such precision that it achieved its objectives in 93 minutes. He endured financial ruin after the King’s Bridge collapse, then rebuilt the bridge at his own expense. He faced a coordinated antisemitic campaign to remove him from command, named it a “pogrom,” and answered with preparation, composure, and performance.

The Sir John Monash Museum reveals the values that shaped Monash’s greatness.

The evidence remains. The bridge still stands. Many soldier lives were saved. His office is still upstairs in the Yallourn Production Centre — the last building where Monash worked at length after the war.

This museum makes visible the foundations beneath Monash’s achievement: the values, pressures, obligations, and convictions that shaped a life of consequence.
