In 1969, the State Electricity Commission presented Yallourn electrical foreman Karl Krautschneider with what Contact described as the highest award the Commission had made, for a locomotive circuit-breaker operating device.
The recognition shows how practical ideas developed by Latrobe workers could improve the complex industrial systems on which the wider electricity network depended.
