The anniversary year is counted from the Eagle Inn at Narracan Creek, reported open by 1848. Because no exact 1848 opening day has yet been located, 1 March is Eden's selected birthday date, anchored to the documented railway opening on 1 March 1878. The selection remains open to stronger evidence from Moe & District Historical Society.

The anniversary year is counted from Peter Jeremiah Smith establishing a hotel at Morwell Bridge in 1858. Because no exact opening day has yet been located, 10 September is Eden's selected birthday date, anchored to the earliest exact contemporary accommodation notice presently located for “the Morewell”, published on 10 September 1858. The selection remains open to stronger evidence from Morwell Historical Society.
