About

Tucked into the foothills of the Great Dividing Range about ten minutes north of Traralgon, Applebox Farm is a small, working farm where you can pick up genuinely fresh produce straight from the people who grew it.

Run by Shane and Marnie, the farmgate offers eggs, fruit, vegetables, herbs and honey, along with seasonal cut flowers including dahlias and sunflowers. The farm has been in operation for over twenty years, with the couple growing food first for their own family and then for their local community — a tradition that continues today. In recent years they have added a polytunnel to extend the growing season and introduced bees for pollination, and everything available at the gate is grown on the property without the use of chemicals.

A farmgate like Applebox is a grounding part of what makes the Latrobe City food scene distinctive — it connects visitors directly with the land and the people tending it, offering something quite different from a cafe or restaurant but just as rewarding for those who value knowing where their food comes from. It is the kind of place that keeps a community tethered to the seasons.

Opening hours and current offerings can change with the season, so Shane and Marnie recommend following them on Instagram or Facebook, or joining their mailing list, before making the trip out.
