The joysticks are live and the competition is real. Latrobe Regional Gallery hosts a Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting tournament that puts classic arcade skill front and centre.

Created by Preston McNeil, the mind behind Arca Arcade: Round One, this event brings the golden age of competitive arcade gaming back to life. It is open to all ages and abilities, welcoming everyone from seasoned veterans to first-time fighters. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Participants compete head-to-head in classic side-by-side arcade style against local players. The event opens with a round-robin stage to identify the top five seeds, then moves into a double-elimination finals bracket to determine the ultimate champion. Prizes are on offer for tournament winners, and the atmosphere promises the kind of focused, good-natured rivalry that arcade halls were made for.

Events like this one reflect Latrobe City's growing appetite for creative, community-driven cultural programming. By pairing a beloved piece of gaming history with the accessible, welcoming setting of the regional gallery, the tournament invites locals of all backgrounds to connect over shared play.

The tournament runs from 1pm to 3pm on Sunday 2 August 2026 at Latrobe Regional Gallery, 138 Commercial Road, Morwell.
