Morwell Citizens Band Free Community Concert

About

Two bands take the stage in one free afternoon concert, uniting Gippsland musicians and celebrating 139 years of community music-making in Morwell. The air will ring with brass, wind, and percussion as some of the region's finest players come together for an occasion that is equal parts celebration and send-off.

Morwell Citizens Band is marking a significant milestone: the launch of its brand-new Concert Band, drawing musicians from across Gippsland. Alongside this debut, the Band's historic 139-year-old Brass Band will perform the very program it will take to the Victorian State Band Championships, giving audiences a rare preview of championship-level music.

Visitors can expect a full afternoon of live brass band and concert band music performed to competition standard. Hearing the Brass Band's State Championship program in an intimate community venue offers something genuinely special — the same performance that will represent Morwell and the Latrobe Valley on a statewide stage, delivered free of charge to neighbours, families, and friends.

Events like this sit at the heart of what makes Latrobe City distinctive: a deep tradition of community arts that is actively growing rather than fading. The launch of a new Concert Band means more local musicians have a home, and more residents have live music on their doorstep — a direct investment in the cultural life of the region.

The concert is free and everyone is welcome. It takes place on Sunday 9 August at 1:30pm at St Mary's Anglican Church, 6/8 Latrobe Road, Morwell. No bookings are required — simply bring family and friends and enjoy the afternoon.
