Churchill's streets hold more history than most people realise, and this guided walk brings it all to life in just a couple of hours. Led by knowledgeable locals, the walk turns a morning stroll into a journey through the story of this planned Latrobe Valley town.
The Churchill and District Community Association Inc organises this popular walk, with guide Rob de Souza-Daw leading the way. Rob is a Churchill resident and serves on both the CDCA committee and the Morwell Historical Society, bringing genuine depth and enthusiasm to every step of the route. Fellow CDCA volunteers support the walk, making it a true community effort.
Before heading out, walkers gather inside Churchill Cafe & Pizza HQ by 10.15am for a presentation on the cafe's 98-inch screen, featuring local flora and fauna photography by Field Naturalist Ken Harris and historical images of the town's development. The walk itself covers 1.8 kilometres and takes approximately two hours, with the route taking in significant trees and sites that reveal how Churchill grew from a planned settlement into the community it is today.
Events like this one play an important role in keeping local history alive and accessible for residents and visitors across Latrobe City. They strengthen community connections, celebrate the people who shaped the region, and give newer residents a richer understanding of the place they call home.
