Ukulele Lessons with Phillip Chalker

About

There is something quietly joyful about picking up a ukulele for the first time and realising you can actually make music with it. This beginner workshop in Traralgon promises exactly that feeling within the very first session.

Local music teacher Phillip Chalker is hosting two small-group ukulele workshops on 30 July 2026, each capped at four participants to keep the learning personal and pressure-free. Phillip brings a patient, encouraging style to the instrument, designed specifically for adults and beginners who have never played before.

Participants will learn the names of the ukulele parts and strings, how to tune up, basic strumming patterns and two simple chords — enough to carry a real song by the time they pack up and head home. Sessions run either 10am to 11.30am or 12pm to 1.30pm, so you can choose the time that suits your day best. Please bring your own ukulele and tuner.

Access to quality, affordable music education in regional areas like Latrobe City makes a genuine difference to creative confidence and community connection. Events like this one give locals a low-stakes, sociable way to discover a new skill without the commitment of a long-term course.

Bookings cost $45 per person and RSVPs close the Monday before the workshop. To secure your place in Session 1 or Session 2, contact Phillip on 0400 603 367 or email [email protected]. The workshop is held at Tiffany's Florist, 89 Seymour Street, Traralgon.
