A Cup of Hospitality Program

About

A fresh career in hospitality could be closer than you think — and it starts with a single cup. The Gippsland Trades and Labour Council's free Cup of Hospitality Program brings together everything you need to step confidently into the industry, all in one intensive ten-day experience.

Running from 10 to 20 August 2026, this program is designed for people who want to break into the hospitality industry, expand their existing skills, or simply feel more empowered and ready for work. Delivered by the Gippsland Trades and Labour Council — based at 120 Buckley Street, Morwell — the program is free to eligible participants, with organisers happy to discuss commitment requirements before you enrol.

Over the ten days, participants will complete Barista Basics Training, acquire their RSA (Responsible Service of Alcohol) certificate, gain a Food Handling Certificate, and earn a Level 2 First Aid qualification. Beyond the certifications, the program includes empowerment coaching to build confidence, and genuine opportunities to meet local employers and chat directly with people already working in the industry.

For Latrobe City, programs like this are vital — they lower the barrier to employment in a sector that underpins the region's hospitality and tourism scene, while building the self-assurance that helps people stay and grow in their careers. The combination of practical credentials and personal development makes this far more than a short course.
