Snow Train Moe – Traralgon

About

Steam rises into the crisp winter air as Steamrail's double-headed R Class locomotives thunder through the Latrobe Valley, hauling a rake of beautifully preserved Edwardian-era carriages. This is heritage rail travel at its finest — windows wide open, the sound of the locos working hard echoing across the hills.

The Snow Train Moe – Traralgon is a one-day return excursion operated by Steamrail Victoria, departing Moe at 10:22am and arriving in Traralgon at 11:37am. Passengers spend a leisurely afternoon in Traralgon before the return service departs at 4:51pm, arriving back in Moe at 5:37pm. Tickets are available for one-way or return travel.

On board, travellers experience the charm of wooden carriages up to 110 years old, complete with pressed tin ceilings, cosy compartments, and gorgeous timber and chrome finishings. The Club Car 'Moorabool' offers a kiosk stocked with light refreshments, snacks, hot and cold drinks, and a fully licensed bar serving beers, wines and spirits. Souvenirs are also available from the onboard store.

Events like this bring the rich industrial and railway heritage of the Latrobe Valley to life, offering residents and visitors alike a rare chance to experience the region's landscape from a uniquely historic vantage point. Passing through the Haunted Hills, Hernes Oak and Morwell, the journey celebrates the stories and scenery that define this part of Gippsland.

The Snow Train runs on Saturday 1 August 2026. Be on the platform at least 15 minutes before departure. Tickets can be purchased through the Steamrail Victoria website at www.steamrail.com.au. Note that these tickets do not include travel from Melbourne.
