The International Rose Garden Festival celebrates the internationally award-winning rose garden at the heart of Morwell, honouring the dedication of the Friends of the Rose Garden Volunteers who care for it year-round. Held each November to coincide with peak bloom, the festival has grown steadily into a multi-day community event that draws visitors from across the Latrobe Valley and beyond.
Friday evening kicks off with food trucks, roving performers and a kids' disco with DJ Nige from 6.30pm. Saturday brings a live stage show and Storytime from Costa the Gnome, dirtgirl and scrapboy of dirtgirlworld fame, a cut rose competition for novice gardeners, CWA Devonshire Teas, garden and market stalls, and local musicians. After dark on both evenings, the AGL Loy Yang Night Light Installation transforms the garden into a kaleidoscope of colour, with giant animal and insect lanterns hidden among the roses for visitors to discover.
Events like this one sit at the heart of community life in Latrobe City, giving local volunteers, performers, businesses and families a shared occasion to celebrate the region's character and creativity.
