Bringing a vivid piece of Malta to the Latrobe Valley, the Maltese Community Centre and Museum in Morwell is Australia’s first and only museum dedicated to Maltese culture, heritage and identity.

The museum was founded by Maltese migrant and long-serving community leader Mario Sammut. Its collection grew from a shared wish to preserve the stories, traditions and treasured objects carried by Maltese families as they made a new home in Australia.

Visitors can explore a remarkable collection of artefacts and memorabilia, including everyday objects, cherished heirlooms and detailed miniature replicas of significant Maltese buildings. Important contributions from model-maker Charlie Camilleri and the family of the late Frank Consiglio, Victoria’s first Consul General for Malta, sit alongside donations from many members of the community.

Next door, the Maltese Community Centre continues that living cultural story with traditional Maltese lunches each Sunday. Together, the centre and museum offer a warm place to discover the Maltese contribution to the Latrobe Valley and the enduring connections between homeland, migration and community.
