Sculpture spills out of galleries and into the streets of Yinnar, transforming this small Gippsland town into a living, breathing art destination for six weeks every two years. The Gippsland Sculpture Exhibition is one of the region's most distinctive creative events, drawing visitors, collectors and artists from right across Australia.
Organised by Gippsland Sculpture Exhibition Inc., a not-for-profit incorporated association, the exhibition is a biennial showcase that places Yinnar firmly on the map as the Sculpture Culture Capital of Gippsland. Sculptors enter because they love the atmosphere, the warmth of the local community and the chance to compete for serious prize money made possible by generous sponsors.
Visitors can wander through streets and galleries encountering a wide variety of sculptural works — from large-scale outdoor installations to intimate gallery pieces — all created by talented artists from around the country. The event is as much about community connection as it is about art, with the GSE drawing people together in a shared celebration of creativity and place.
For Latrobe City and the broader Gippsland region, the exhibition represents a significant boost to tourism and economic activity, while building social connectedness and community resilience in Yinnar and District. It is a proud demonstration of what a small regional town can achieve when creativity and community spirit combine.
